A Primer on How to Reduce Water Damage in Rifle Homes

8/8/2019 (Permalink)

Leaking pipes can cause a lot of water damage quickly. Make sure you know how to turn off your water supply.

Some Quick Tips to Reduce Water Damage in Rifle Homes

You might realize early on that you do not have the skillset or the equipment to handle even modest water loss incidents occurring in your Rifle home, but that does not mean that you have no means of helping the situation. You can expect a fast 24/7 response from our SERVPRO professionals. There are initial steps that a property owner can take to reduce the spread of the water damage, the severity of this situation, and the ultimate cost involved in restoring the effects.

Water damage in Rifle homes varies by the source of the incident and where the symptoms can spread within the residence. It is crucial to contain the situation as promptly as possible, and assuring the success in this venture can start before our professionals even roll out from our facility. We can mobilize quickly to get mitigation and restoration work started in your home. Here are some steps that you can take to make the process more efficient and cost-effective:

  • Identify the Source

Often this is not challenging to accomplish, but it can help to narrow your immediate actions to cut off water flow to a particular appliance, portion of piping, or the entire plumbing system in the household until our SERVPRO professionals arrive.

  • Contain the Damage as Best as You Can

Sometimes closing a door and pushing a towel against the bottom can stop water flow to other rooms long enough for our technicians to arrive and get started on extraction.

  • Protect Your Belongings

We have an entire content management division. There is little we can do for some items that have spent hours directly exposed to standing water. Move at-risk items to safe areas of your home.

Water damage recovery comes in multiple phases. These approaches can happen more quickly and more thoroughly with a combination of our SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties trained professionals and the efforts of our customers before our team arrives. Give us a call anytime disasters strike at (970) 618-1516 to make water loss incidents “Like it never even happened.”

However, when contaminated water covers large areas or affects numerous pieces of inventory and furnishings, the risks increase significantly to both your employees’ health and to anything not yet damaged.

Technicians at SERVPRO study and participate in in-house training to earn recognition from the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). The areas covered during our studies include the wide variety of proper cleaning methods and techniques to cover the diverse materials found in homes and businesses today. Our goal is to help businesses recover after disasters affect their buildings as quickly as possible, restoring functionality and safety, so people do not experience health effects or other issues.

With flooding, damage includes swelling up of flooring materials, an overload of pathogens and chemicals on everything touched by the water, dramatically increased humidity, odors, debris, and other risk-filled changes. Mitigating the area and eliminating these problems requires that workers stay protected with proper personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as understand both the risks and the techniques necessary to avoid injury. Because every team member at SERVPRO arrives prepared with both mitigation equipment and their own PPE, safely restoring your store or office occurs efficiently and in a safe manner.

We Have The Proper Equipment To Restore Your Silt Home

7/20/2019 (Permalink)

We have the necessary equipment to restore any storm damage big or small that causes flooding.

Extracting Standing Water and Establishing Dry Methods after Flood Damage in Silt

A flooded property poses several tough questions to a homeowner. There is a myriad of different factors to consider, such as furniture, flooring, carpeting, fittings, and fixtures. Getting the excess water out is crucial, but after standing water is gone, waterlogged contents or structure can cause just as much damage. Our restoration company has the experience to tackle each challenge strategically and can deploy the correct equipment for each stage. An established gameplan to restoring a flooded property is crucial to minimizing both losses and secondary damages.

Homeowners with flood damage in their Silt property need to understand that time is a contributing factor to the restoration process. Flooring weakens under the increased weight and pressure of standing water. There is also a water migration issue to consider, whereby flooded rooms leak moisture into structural cavities or subfloor. Finally, microbial growth thrives in wet, humid conditions and can grow into colonies in as little as 48 hours, so your structure and contents need proper drying to guard against secondary damages.

SERVPRO operates a rapid-response unit for emergency flood situations. Depending on the scale of operation, we can send a technician, or several, to your property to mitigate losses. Safety comes first. A water restoration technician (WRT) can scope your property for electrical hazards, restore shut off power, and test floors or ceilings for structural weakness. Once the scoping procedure is complete, we can bring in the required equipment to remove standing water.

Removing excess quantities of water can be done quickly by using extraction units and gas-powered pumping equipment. SERVPRO technicians can usually remove excess water within a day. The next step is to bring in professional drying equipment like dehumidifiers and rapid air-movers. Depending on the scope of the project, this process can take anywhere from 24 hours to a few weeks. A SERVPRO technician can take relative humidity readings, and moisture content readings to ensure the expected outcomes are being achieved daily until the home is returned to its condition before the flood damage.

An efficient restoration procedure requires the ability to remove standing water quickly before establishing an informed drying method. Contact SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties at (970) 618-1516 today.

Fire Restoration Professionals Talk About Cleaning Methods to Restore Fire Damaged Rifle Homes

7/9/2019 (Permalink)

There is not a one size fits all solution to clean fire damaged possession. SERVPRO has several cleaning methods used to restore your home.

Restoring Fire Damage Property in Rifle Homes

Despite having the Colorado running through town, Rifle residents know that fire season is just getting underway. Recent rains dry up quickly as the temperature rises and put their homes at risk.

Fire damage in Rifle homes can be everything from a burned out roof to the thick smoke residues coating every surface in the kitchen, dining room, and elsewhere after a fire. SERVPRO response crews train their personnel as Fire & Smoke Damage Restoration Technicians, or FSRTs to ensure they can clean residues on everything from upholstery fabrics to drywall, and more.

Each FSRT trains to become skilled on four primary cleaning actions. Each one is designed to break residues from the surface they adhere to after the fire. Depending on the surface and type of residues, technicians use Suspension and Dispersion, Mechanical, Lubrication, or Chemical Actions.

Suspension and Dispersion is the first and most common cleaning action used by SERVPRO. Technicians loosen soils with a cleaning product, which become suspended in the solution, and dispersed. Suspension happens when the soils dissolve in the cleaner or remain intact inside a cleaner they cannot mix with chemically. FSRTs remove them using a sponge or extraction device. It is useful on items like drywall.

Mechanical Action is also called Agitation. Technicians use it, sometimes with a cleaning agent, to physically break up residue layers on fabrics, stone, metal, and more. Since some surfaces absorb cleaning products, a scrub brush or mechanical agitator is also a preferred method to remove them along with the residues and other soils.

Lubrication Action breaks the link between residues and surfaces by making them slippery. The detergents and other cleaners work their way under the residue or other soil so they ‘slide’ into them for easy removal. It is a particularly useful action on glass and metal surfaces.

Chemical Action alters residues by application of a cleaning agent. The alteration allows technicians to more easily remove them using sponges, vacuums, and devices like extraction wands to pull residues and the shampoo cleaner from carpets.

At SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties, we understand that a home is far more than four walls and a roof. Memories sometimes link closely to personal property, so our response teams take every action possible to restore the items in Glenwood Springs, New Castle, and Silt homes, as well as the structure, to their pre-fire condition. Why We Are The Leader In Glenwood Springs Flood Damage Restoration

6/21/2019 (Permalink)

When a portion of your residence has been flooded the need for water damage cleanup and restoration is very real. We are available 24/7 to help you.

Why SERVPRO has Highly Trained Technicians to Deal with Flood Damage in Glenwood Springs

The average flooding incident leaves significant amounts of dirty water and silt in the affected home, so restoration only requires extraction and cleanup. However, some incidents cause severe damages presenting considerable challenges for the restorers. As part of our professional flood mitigation services, we help homeowners deal with any situation they might face because our teams are highly trained in different restoration fields.

When an incident of flood damage in Glenwood Springs involves sewage backup, it can lead to severe contamination. If the affected area has porous materials such as carpets, the only way to deal with the contamination effectively is through teardown and removal of the porous material. Hard surfaces, on the other hand, require thorough cleaning that removes contaminants without causing additional damages. Our SERVPRO FCT, Floor Care Technicians, rely on their advanced training to choose the right cleaning agents that sanitize affected areas without ruining the materials.

If a significant amount of water flows into a house, it leads to a wide range of problems, particularly if not extracted fast enough. Unoccupied houses such as vacation homes can present extra challenges since the discovery of the flooding incident might take some time. Such delays create a perfect chance for water permeating any exposed materials. Mold also starts developing within 24 hours, followed by other forms of material deterioration. Our SERVPRO technicians take different steps, including controlled teardown to remove mold from the structure. We also use advanced moisture detection equipment to establish hidden moisture or water pockets.

Strong odors can develop after a flooding incident. Among the sources of such odor include soils such as raw sewage and chemicals dissolved in the water. Cleaning agents used to sanitize contamination caused by flooding can also leave a trace of bad odor. Controlling such smells requires elaborate steps. Our SERVPRO teams have certified OCT, Odor Control Technicians, who use their advanced training to help remove bad odor. We use different approaches like fogging, direct spraying, and injection to deliver deodorizing agents.

For the stress-free restoration of flood-damaged property, call SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties to assist. You can reach our highly trained teams at (970) 618-1516 any time. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Flood Damage Technicians In Glenwood Springs Describe Problems Associated With Snow Melting

5/30/2019 (Permalink)

Remember winter weather can be beautiful, but can be very damaging, call SERVPRO for your winter weather issues.

Many locations deal with winter water damage.

This year the Glenwood Springs area along with most of the state of Colorado received more snowfall than the last few years. Excessive snow during the winter season led to an increase in flood damage cases during the cold months, and the problems can continue into the late spring and early summer seasons. According to the experts, this year, the snowpack amounts in the high mountains are nearly double what they were last year. Many places in Colorado's high country are noticing that the amount of snow is also higher than the yearly average. All of this means that when the weather starts to warm up and the snow starts to melt that an increased amount of cases of flood damage could be likely for the next month or two.

For example, when the snow melts from the high mountains in Garfield County, water starts to pour downhill. The increased amount of water running in the rivers and streams can cause flood damage in Glenwood Springs. If the water levels rise high enough, the rivers and streams can overflow which can cause water to pour downhill taking routes it normally would not take. This liquid H2O can flow down the mountains above your house and head in your direction. If this happens, there is a chance that water will get into the interior of your home.

Once moisture finds a way indoors, several problems can occur. Any time items inside your house get wet it is wise to call in a professional restoration company such as SERVPRO. Our water damage restoration technicians or WRTs know that prompt action is necessary to reduce the issues overall. If organic substances stay wet inside your home, mold growth can occur.

Our WRTs at SERVPRO know techniques and have equipment that can help dry out your home before fungi can develop. We start the restoration process by extracting water while it is still in liquid form. Then, we implement applied structural drying or ASD.

If you ever suffer problems associated with snow melting, call SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties 24 hours a day and seven days a week.

Why SERVPRO Is The Right Option For Water Removal Services In Your Glenwood Springs Home

Coming home to a flooded basement from a broken water heater in Glenwood Springs is a very unpleasant surprise. However, do not delay in getting the mess cleaned up, as the longer the water sits, the more damage is done and the costlier it is to fix.

A flooded basement in your Glenwood Springs home needs water removal services from a professional remediation company right away. We look at the surfaces which need specialized drying procedures including concrete, hardwood, or brick.

With state-of-the-art equipment, we extract the standing water quickly, usually with truck-mounted pumps if the water is more than a few inches deep. In this way, the water doesn’t come into contact with other surfaces of your property.

Any materials that cannot be salvaged are removed and disposed of properly. We can cut away part of the drywall if the water has gone up the wall a bit and replace those sections with new material. Anything else affected is cleaned and sanitized.

High powered fans, air movers and dehumidifiers are placed to remove all the remaining moisture in the area. We may even open windows and doors if possible, to help speed up the drying process. We use sensors to gauge the humidity levels as needed.

Specialty cleaning products are then used to sanitize, clean, and deodorize your basement thoroughly. If any restoration and renovation are needed, we can then complete these tasks. For any significant projects, we bring in other professionals for help.

We can stop further water intrusion and remove the hazardous materials hanging from the walls and ceilings after a flood has traumatized your home.

Why Flood Damage Cleanup in Silt Should be Handled by Professionals

Both the Roaring Fork and Colorado River have the potential to cause flooding in this area of Colorado. When water enters your home due to a storm, the faster cleanup begins, the more potential for saving both the house and contents.

When answering a call to clean up flood damage in Silt, SERVPRO knows time is of the essence, and that is why our emergency response time arrives on site within four hours after your initial call. There are three categories of water. Category one is clean water such as a pipe break. Category two is gray water, which is usually wastewater from sinks, bathtubs and appliances such as washing machines. Extraction of any standing water left and elimination of moisture is the foundation of restoration. SERVPRO technicians have many resources such as submersible pumps and truck-mounted extraction pumps that can pull thousands of gallons of water from the home, so the drying process can begin as fast as possible. The more water that is lifted out of the structure and contents, the faster the drying process takes.

After a thorough drying using air movers and dehumidifiers, our technicians work on disinfecting and cleaning any parts of the structure or contents that came into contact with flood water. The goal is to lower moisture and eliminate vapor barriers behind walls and under flooring that may harbor mold.

Residual odors are often eliminated by complete drying. When there is a lingering odor from the water, SERVPRO technicians are specially certified in neutralizing odors at the molecular level using tools use a ULV (ultra low volume) fogger. Some odor fighting efforts require the application of multiple methods.

We Have Specialized Techniques To Get Rid Of Fire Damage In Glenwood Springs

3/28/2019 (Permalink)

Fires that start in the kitchen can leave horrible odors. Our team is experience and has the right equipment to fully restore your home.

Small Fire Damage, Big Odor Problem in Glenwood Springs

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, 50.3% of fires in residential buildings were caused by cooking. This type of fire damage is often referred to in our industry as a protein fire because it comes from burning food which can leave pungent, hard-to-remove odors in the home.

Mitigating both foul odors and fire damage in Glenwood Springs homes requires the application of several specialized techniques. While protein fires often leave little in the way of residues, the smell is usually stronger than other types of fire odor. Additionally, due to the high heat, the scent tends to permeate furnishings and porous items easily and remains until neutralized.

After accessing the area affected by the protein fire, SERVPRO technicians determine if containment is necessary and ascertain the area is dry. If needed, technicians perform water extraction, and air movers are deployed to thoroughly dry without spreading odor-causing particles to other areas of the home.

Technicians work on cleaning residue from affected surfaces using professional-strength cleaning solutions and wet and dry sponges as necessary on surfaces and affected objects to remove any remaining residual smoke and soot residues and eliminate some of the odor caused by the fire damage.

The Odor Control Technician (OCT) has numerous resources to use for effective odor removal after a protein fire. Due to the nature of fire odors, the removal of the pungent scents can be a multi-layered process. Air scrubbers fitted with activated charcoal filters pull odor-causing motes from the air that cannot be seen with the naked human eye. The air ducts are cleaned, and the HVAC filter changed to eliminate any odors that traveled from the original fire damaged area. Another effective method of odor neutralization is the application of thermal fogging. Our OCT uses a handheld machine to deliver a heated fog of odor-neutralizing solvent. The fog works in the same manner as smoke to penetrate and overtake odors deeply embedded in porous objects removing all traces of the protein fire.

Fire odors can linger until all traces of the fire damage is removed from the home. SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties has technicians available to assist you 24/7 to get rid of all traces of the fire at your home. Call (970) 618-1516 today to get started.

How SERVPRO Removes Water From Homes in Silt

3/22/2019 (Permalink)

Uh oh!!! Time to call SERVPRO!

SERVPRO has Many Water Removal Techniques for Silt Homes

Water that enters your home from an appliance failure or plumbing break can be a little or a lot. An inch of water can do substantial primary and secondary water damage the longer it stands. Water that enters via plumbing or home appliance is considered clean water. As the clock ticks on standing water, it degrades quickly first designated gray and then black water which is regarded as contaminated and requires specialized efforts to remediate.

SERVPRO technicians can be on site with equipment within four hours for water removal from Silt homes. Our technicians are IICRC certified and hold certifications in numerous types of restorative sciences. Based on the unique situation in the house, different resources can be used for water extraction, drying and odor control to fit the individual case.

Truck mounted pumps are a very effective way to remove thousands of gallons of water from a home quickly. Combined with weighted extractors which push water out of carpet padding meaning often carpeting can be dried in place without the need for removal. When water seeps into building materials and furnishings, our technicians drill small weep holes to allow the wall cavity to drain and dry adequately. In many cases, furniture can be placed on blocks and dried in place with minimal disruption to the home.

Air movers require planning and are more complex than setting up powerful fans and letting them run. Our technicians survey the home to determine the best angles to direct moist air up and out for the fastest drying. SERVPRO uses state-of-the-art digital moisture detectors to confirm the home has reached optimum levels of dryness, so microbial populations are not an issue after the fact. After drying, surfaces are wiped down with antifungal cleaning solutions and odor control techniques are applied if needed.

Water removal from your home is never a DIY job and should be handled by professionals as fast as possible. SERVPRO of Garfield and Pitkin Counties has emergency services available to assist you 24/7 at (970) 618-1516.

Why The Advanced Training SERVPRO Technicians Undergo Improves Water Cleanup In New Castle

Water loss incidents happen when least expected causing a lot of inconveniences. However, the most challenging thing is to clean up the mess left after the incident. Water can soil property by leaving debris collected from the source of the leak or by dissolving materials found in the property such as dyes in non-colorfast fabrics. Proper cleanup is possible when you take the right steps. Working with a highly trained team of water restorers is one way to ensure the right outcome.

Although water damage is physical, it also causes emotional stress. Therefore, the exercise of water cleanup in New Castle should not exacerbate the situation. Our SERVPRO technicians are trained in customer care to ensure they take all the needs of the client into consideration. One thing that creates conflict during such exercises is deciding what needs replacement and what can be saved. Our crew works closely with the property owner and insurance adjuster to make sure all parties agree.

Removing all traces of standing water from the property is a crucial part of the cleanup. Such removal should also happen fast because microbial growth occurs if the water remains standing for long complicating the cleanup further. WRT, Water Restoration Technicians from SERVPRO, are highly trained on ways to remove water fast from affected properties. We combine the use of advanced equipment such as water extractors and specialized skills such as creating flood cuts and vent holes to expedite removal.

After property floods, various residues collect on surfaces. The water might also dissolve dyes and resins in contents as well as causing rust in metal items. Removing all these soils is necessary and should be done with care to avoid worsening the situation. Careful choice of a cleaning agent is necessary to prevent further damage to the contents. Our SERVPRO technicians use OSHA approved cleaning agents. Our training also helps us decide where to use each agent. For example, we do not use chlorine-based agents on rust stains because it sets them.

With help from SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties, you can clean up your property to sanitary levels after water loss incidents. Call us at (970) 618-1516 any time. We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster.

Flood Damage Destroys Some, But Not All Wood Flooring Types in Rifle Homes

2/25/2019 (Permalink)

Our team is here for you and your wood floors if a natural disaster has damaged your home.

SERVPRO Explains Residential Flood Damage Restoration Process

There are many variables in the restoration business affecting the methods chosen by SERVPRO technicians when working on a Rifle property. One of these involves the most affected portion of a flooded home, the floor.

When your home in Rifle sustains flood damage, much of your home can become ruined. The flooring that you and your family walk on every day needs to be sturdy, secure, and not suffer any weaknesses. Homes with slab foundations do not suffer the same damage as houses with crawlspaces sustain. The structural integrity of the support framework can weaken when submerged in water. A flood's forcefulness and turbulence can cause additional weakening to not only the floor's support but also other parts of your home's framework.

Carpeting, of course, becomes so saturated with Category 3 water during a flood that both it and its pad require removal. Wood flooring often makes homeowners feel their floors can somehow survive a flooding incident, with little or no lingering effects. However, there are different kinds of wood flooring, and they do not fare equally during a disaster.

Solid wood flooring made of traditional long planks or boards is most likely to survive with relatively little restorative work. We can pull a few boards up and get all of the water removed. Then we can flush it out with an antimicrobial wash which thoroughly eliminates pathogens and keeps your family safe. Drying the area helps keep cupping and crowning of individual boards minimal when done correctly.

Not all wood floors survive because of the way the manufacturer makes them. Solid wood floors are more natural than laminate floors. These not only have glue holding them in place, much like tiles, but glue also holds their patterned pieces together. This glue disintegrates after being saturated for more than a few hours. The same turbulence that can twist a house's frame creates a mess of such pieced-wood flooring.

When our SERVPRO technicians pump water out of a house that contains such flooring, we often find a jumble of different pieces, some completely taken apart like a jigsaw puzzle with a few intact tiles here and there. Putting a floor in such condition back together costs more than it would to replace it with new flooring.

New Castle Structures Can Develop Mold Problems--SERVPRO Says Just Call Us for Remediation

2/24/2019 (Permalink)

New Castle Business Owners Know SERVPRO Is the Answer for a No Mold Zone

The Risks of Mold Growth in Your New Castle Chapel

From weekly services to weddings and special events, your chapel receives many visitors and foot traffic throughout the year. Keeping up with the needs of the building can be challenging without the time to accurately assess wear and tear, or potential vulnerabilities on your own. While our team can help with honest evaluations, often this is a process that is only thought of after disasters and damages have already occurred. Among the most easily missed and highly destructive of these situations is mold growth.

There are many reasons that mold damage in New Castle must get addressed quickly and professionally. Among the chief of these would be the potential health effects for those exposed to active and growing colonies throughout the property. To keep your congregation and leaders safe from these possible risks, you should reach out to our SERVPRO remediation specialists. We can help you remove these organisms from the property and return things to pre-mold conditions.

Another potential problem that results from allowing mold growth to continue in your church or commercial structure without resistance is the effect that the organism has on the construction materials and contents used to support the colonies. A colony requires an organic material for hosting, and it becomes a food source for growth and spread of the mold throughout the affected areas and beyond.

Our SERVPRO team can respond quickly at the discovery of mold to establish containment barriers using plastic sheeting and negative air pressure devices. We then work to treat the affected materials with the mindset of preservation over reconstruction. If we can protect and restore a damaged element, this happens instead of needlessly tearing out materials and replacing them later on. Porous materials like sheetrock and fabrics are more susceptible to becoming non-salvageable.

Our SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties remediation specialists can help to remove the active colonies quickly and return your structure quickly. Give us a call anytime at (970) 618-1516.

If you ever notice even the smallest water leak, call SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties at (970) 618-1516 any day of the week.

Water Cleanup Technicians In New Castle Talk About Problems With Washing Machines

Any appliance that uses water inside your New Castle home could fail one day and cause a water leak. Any time moisture gets where it is not supposed to be it is wise to call in a professional water cleanup company such as SERVPRO. A common place for a water leak to take place is inside your laundry room. This room inside your house has many water and sewage lines running in and out of it. If your plumbing system fails or if your washing machine breaks you may be tasked with some extensive water cleanup.

Once moisture spills into your leaving area, it is wise to get problems mitigated by professional restoration technicians like SERVPRO's team. If water cleanup inside your New Castle home does not get conducted within 48 hours mold can develop on any organic materials inside your home. Once moisture gets inside a building, it raises the indoor relative humidity level which can also cause a different set of issues. Elevated humidity levels can create an environment where microbes that naturally exist inside your house can get activated. When cleaning up water quickly, we first extract the water while it is in its liquid form, then we set up drying equipment to remove the rest of the moisture from your contents, building materials, and airflow system.

Even if your problem is minor, our SERVPRO technicians can help items inside your house from getting ruined. We know that the quicker we can clean up the water in your laundry room using wet vacuums and mops the easier the rapid structural drying stage will become. Moisture is much easier to clean up when it is still liquid. Therefore, we utilize specialized equipment to clean up as much liquid H2O as possible before we set up air movers and dehumidifiers.

Once all water is extracted, we use air movers to push air in a counterclockwise direction and dehumidifiers to draw moisture from the air. If you ever notice even the smallest water leak, call SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties at (970) 618-1516 any day of the week.

Is a Fire Cooking in Your Rifle Kitchen?

2/5/2019 (Permalink)

Trust the SERBPRO Brand to restore your fire damaged property.

A Forgotten Electric Griddle a Source of Fire Damage in Rifle, Leaving a Gutted Kitchen

Electrical appliances in the kitchen often face exposure to water. The habit of leaving several items plugged into the wall through a power strip can also seem fine. Residents in Rifle who do this might not realize the risks until it is too late. A kitchen fire does not always start with oil or grease overheating.

SERVPRO Franchise professionals can help you get your kitchen in Rifle back to normal after fire damage makes it unusable. We promise to arrive Faster To Any Size Disaster and work as a team to make things normal again. Electrical overloads and malfunctioning items in kitchens and bathrooms cause many fires each year.

When we mitigate fire damage in a kitchen, we keep different goals in mind. We want to ensure that restoration work can safely happen which requires the removal of all safety hazards such as exposed nails and other sharp fasteners, cleaning up of soot deposits, and drying the area of any water used to put the fire out.

SERVPRO Franchise professionals remove charred drywall and cabinetry, and this can leave exposed wood with sharp edges. We remove the entirety of affected cabinets, so restoration efforts flow more smoothly. Drywall and other wall materials allow us more leeway, and we only remove those materials damaged by the fire.

We can often clean smoke damage away. When deposits are thicker and more heavily adhered to surfaces, we can restore these with scraping and repainting, which is considerably less expensive than replacing the area. Soot often ends up on ceilings, above doorways, and in light fixtures and other highly detailed and grooved furnishings. We can clean these items and make them “Like it never even happened.”

Making sure that your kitchen becomes dry again protects it from microbial colonization and also protects those performing restoration work later from possible hazards. We use air movers that pull moisture out of surfaces and thoroughly dry them.

Odor control also becomes a crucial part of mitigation and restoration. The odors produced might not seem as pungent as those from a grease fire, but hey can become just as bothersome. Our Odor Control Technician (OCT) can discuss with you the most effective methods for your particular circumstances.

The work we do gets your kitchen area back to normal and functioning again. Call SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties at (970) 618-1516 when your home in Parachute, Basalt, or Snowmass sustains fire damage. We offer 24-hour service, from your initial phone call to the complete mitigation of your property.

Is Mold Growing Behind the Walls in Your New Castle Home?

12/27/2018 (Permalink)

Leaks in pipes, hidden behind walls, can cause mold. A lot of damage has already occurred when the mold is visible inside the home.

Different Methods for Combating Mold Damage from Different Areas in New Castle Area Properties

Daily activities that take place in your New Castle home runs water through the plumbing almost non-stop. Over time, plumbing can become loose at joints and allow water to leak in between walls. Because these pipes reside in hidden areas, your home can develop problems inside these spaces.

SERVPRO carries equipment designed to not only remediate mold damage in New Castle homes, but to also find hidden areas containing undetected mold. Spaces inside walls, within the bases of cabinets, and under floor coverings should come as no surprise after discovering mold growing on the outside of walls or any other easily visible location. SERVPRO can help by getting the destructiveness under control and ensuring a decrease in the likelihood of similar issues in the future.

Within your home, the mold damage encountered requires different approaches to remediation, according to its location and the materials infested by microbes. In open areas, such as a bathroom, a section of your kitchen, living room, or a den, we utilize an enclosed space. In places designed for storage, like attics and crawlspaces, we often use a blasting technique that strips mold and spores away from surfaces. In most areas, we prevent regrowth of microbes with the application of a powerful and long-lasting antimicrobial agent.

Industry standards highly recommend the replacement of any ceilings or walls that contain mold and mildew with new materials. Removing these requires that we cut away the affected sections and double bag them. During this process, spores entering the air increase in number because our work disturbs the mold and triggers this reaction. Our negative air pressure structure pulls clean air in from other parts of your home, and an air scrubber pushes air out your home. A HEPA filter on the air scrubber traps the majority of microbes and spores, and any odors find their way outdoors.

In areas that your family rarely occupies, SERVPRO specialists often use blasting to strip mold from surfaces. Not only does this method remove surface mold effectively, but it also freezes mold and any spores, which kills the majority of microbes involved. We still use vacuums with HEPA filtration systems to remove them from the area,  leaving the space “Like it never even happened.”

SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties is ready 24/7/365 to perform mold damage remediation in homes within Aspen, Snowmass, and Rifle, and follow up with effective prevention techniques. As always, we work with you to determine the cause behind the infestation and provide expert guidance on how to further decrease the risk of re-infestation. Call us at (970) 618-1516 when you discover mold or mildew trying to take over your residence.

Mud and Silt Can Cause Extensive Storm Damage--SERVPRO Offers Water Removal and Cleanup

12/18/2018 (Permalink)

Silt, Mud, Groundwater, Flooding and SERVPRO to the Rescue

Flood Damage Technicians in Silt Talk About Ground Water Problems

Whenever a storm makes its way into your Silt neighborhood, flooding as well as, problems with wind can ruin contents and building materials inside your home. When rain pours down for a long time, water can build up outside and enter your home possibly causing extensive flood damage to your property. When it floods outside, water can soak through your doors and walls and begin to build up inside your house. When the ground your building sits on gets saturated, it is also possible that groundwater will build up and rise into your structure from the ground underneath it. Flooding and groundwater issues can cause various types of flood damage to occur. Hydrostatic pressure can exert sufficient force damage foundation and basement structural components.

Any time water gets into your house; it is possible that the water is contaminated. During any flood damage project in Silt, our SERVPRO technicians know that they are dealing with a category two or three situation. Category two water has the possibility of containing harmful bacteria and rainwater is classified as "grey." Category three water is water that most likely does have harmful substances and is treated the same as a sewage backup. This is called Black Water. During both of these scenarios, carpet and other porous materials get removed, and special measures get taken to prevent the spread of dangerous microorganisms.

When groundwater rises, it causes potential contamination issues with any building materials or contents the moisture contacts. In most cases, our SERVPRO technicians remove any porous materials like carpets or fabrics. We can then dry out subflooring and other nonporous components. After the source gets repaired and everything is dry, we can spray the affected area with antimicrobial chemicals that reduce the chances of mold growth. This may take many days to achieve drying goals. Before the reconstruction phase begins, we often use a specialized sealant paint to trap in odors and help prevent fungal formations in the future.

Groundwater problems can cause health issues to exist due to the contaminated muddy water and the chance that mold can grow. If you ever have groundwater get inside your home after a storm, call SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties at (970) 618-1516 24 hours a day and seven days a week.

Some Tips to Help You Understand the Fire Damage Remediation Process in Rifle

12/6/2018 (Permalink)

Fire damage can affect many surfaces in your home. Contact SERVPRO to discuss the best plan to remediate the damage.

Fire Damage Restoration for Your Rifle Home

If you have experienced a home fire in Rifle, you are probably quite shaken up and possibly at a loss of what to do next. Even a small fire can cause a great deal of damage. The smoke and soot left behind can be even more damaging than the fire itself if it is not taken care of quickly. The longer it is allowed to stay on surfaces, the more it eats away at them.

Fire damage repair for your Rifle home should only be trusted to a professional. At SERVPRO, all our technicians are adequately trained to handle a disaster like this of any size. We take the time to assess the damages upon arrival to your home so we can determine the best methods to use to restore your home to how it looked before the fire.

Methods used to clean structural items depends on what surface we are cleaning. SERVPRO staff uses dry cleaning for surfaces which could be damaged or affected by products that are water-based and are therefore non-washable surfaces.

A dry cleaning sponge is used to remove smoke residues from surfaces. They are rubber sponges which contain no chemical products. Instead, these sponges clean through friction and absorption. As it is pressed, rubbed, and pulled over a soiled surface, the sponge’s porous surface absorbs soils. We use firm pressure to erase the soot from a surface.

In some situations, a dry cleaning sponge is not sufficient. They can clean flat, nonglossy surfaces better than glossy surfaces, where they tend to smear residues. Here, we need a wet cleaning process to remove residues. Dry cleaning can generally remove light to medium soils and residues which are not greasy but should not be used for residues which are greasy.

Dry cleaning is the best process when wet cleaning is not an option. Wet cleaning is more useful for getting rid of residues, but some surfaces can be damaged when using this process. Moisture can set smoke residues into a porous surface, creating stains. Dry cleaning is the best method for unfinished wood surfaces, so moisture does not set into the porous wood.

Once SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties has determined the best methods of cleaning for the various surfaces affected by the fire in your home in Rifle, Redstone, or Basalt, we set to work right away to prevent further problems. Once the fire is safely out, call us right away at (970) 618-1516 so we can get to you quickly to help you restore your structure.

Why it is Important to Remove Water From Your Redstone Crawl Space

11/28/2018 (Permalink)

Crawl spaces are forgotten spaces in your home. Be sure and inspect them often for signs of moisture and water.

Water Collection Could Damage Your Redstone Home

As a homeowner, you might have noticed areas of your Redstone property that become prone to excessive moisture and dampness. With the right conditions, these generally moist areas can allow water collection to occur that poses issues for that area and adjacent areas of the property. Crawl spaces are often notorious for moisture collection, and without the appropriate steps taken to remedy this pooling beneath your home, you could allow for conditions like mold growth to begin.

There are practical solutions available to Redstone homeowners for water removal on a permanent basis in these moisture-prone areas of the property. With crawl spaces, our SERVPRO professionals can encapsulate the affected areas to prevent water penetrating a thick barrier, allowing this space to dry out and prevent persistently damp conditions that promote microbial growth.

Dampness beneath your home is often something that homeowners cannot detect on their own unless they regularly check their crawl spaces. Instead, many do not realize there is a pressing concern until damages have started appearing on the first floor of their home, namely in the flooring and the walls. By the time that mold can affect first floor materials, it has most likely spread throughout all of the organic materials in the crawl space such as flooring supports, braces, and other materials.

Crawlspace encapsulation is a practical solution for water collection underneath your home, as it encases all of the exposed materials in thick plastic sheeting after they get sprayed thoroughly with antimicrobial solution to prevent fungal growth. In some cases, installing sump pumps and other water diversion equipment can help to prevent a buildup around the encapsulated areas.

Excessive moisture and water collection in the crawlspace beneath your home can pose significant threats to the structural integrity and the wellness of the occupants within the property. Give our SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties technicians a call to set up encapsulation and water diversion to preserve your home. You can reach us anytime at (970) 618-1516.

Water Damage In Your Silt Home Does Not Stand A Chance Against Our Advanced Equipment

11/14/2018 (Permalink)

Water can damage your home, and our team can make it “Like it never even happened.”

SERVPRO's Use Of The Latest In Technology Means More Efficient Water Removal From Homes In Silt

When you do all you can to maintain and protect your home in Silt from wear and tear, as well as accidents, the unexpected can leave you wondering what to do. When a water line breaks or a hose slips free, your residence can quickly become a mess of soggy carpeting or worse. Getting it cleaned up fast helps prevent further damage, but in such situations, a mop and bucket fall short of your needs.

Homeowners in the Silt area can rely on SERVPRO to help in such emergencies by providing water removal services using the latest in technological developments. We do more than extract the water that escaped through the faulty water line. We also get your home dried out again in a precise manner. While many people may want to dry things out as quickly as they can, this can also cause problems with more sensitive materials in the home. Wood can warp and crack when exposed to too large a change in its moisture content, even if that includes the elimination of excess moisture.

To prevent this kind of damage to wood and other materials, we study the best ways to handle the materials used in the construction of homes and other types of buildings in different situations. Water can damage a large portion of a home, but handling a disaster requires both knowledge and skill, as well as the proper training of the equipment used to eliminate disasters. Proper mitigation helps solve existing damage and eliminate the possibility of additional harm to the property.

With water, SERVPRO extracts the visible water, either by large and powerful pumps or with hand-held wands, depending on the amount of water. We wipe down surfaces that appear damp and take readings with different types of equipment. Hidden moisture affects the temperature of many materials, so using infrared devices to detect these changes can lead us to such locations. We use other devices to determine the moisture content and then compare these readings to materials sheets detailing the acceptable levels of moisture in similar materials.

After we begin drying the area and eliminating excess moisture and any present water vapor, we continue to monitor the issue to ensure proper drying rates. Once finished, we confirm this with additional readings. Throughout the process, we document all our work, as well as the readings.

Because SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties takes the responsibility of assisting property owners in Redstone, Basalt, and Carbondale seriously, we keep updated regarding the latest water removal techniques. Call (970) 618-1516 to ensure your home receives attention from IICRC certified technicians who want to restore your home to its previous condition, “Like it never even happened.”

How SERVPRO Helps Restore Your Glenwood Springs Commercial Property After A Flood

11/6/2018 (Permalink)

Our initiative is first to provide fast and thorough water restoration, but secondly to discourage other effects such as mold growth from occurring.

Recovering From Flood Damages At A Glenwood Springs School

There are several schools in Glenwood Springs and its immediate surrounding areas including Glenwood Springs High School and the Middle School by the same name. As a large loss recovery team, our franchise can help to restore large properties like these institutions whenever they get threatened by substantial loss incidents.

A common threat to our region is flooding during nearly every season of the year, and flood damages to Glenwood Springs schools can spread quickly. Restoring flooding that affects multiple areas of a large building like these facilities requires a large team of highly-trained water restoration technicians with an abundance of the latest modern equipment designed to make restoration work as efficient as possible. This response is what you can expect from our SERVPRO emergency recovery team.

We can appreciate that a disaster can leave substantial damage throughout the school, preventing the building from performing up to expectations. While these conditions require you to shut your doors to students and faculty throughout the restoration process, we have time-efficient methods and advanced technology to limit the time away from the classrooms. Fast extraction is one of these methods, and that begins with tools like our truck-mounted pumps from our SERVPRO Green Fleet or gas-powered pumps and portable options for prompt localized removal.

Moisture detection equipment allows our technicians to identify materials and areas that have retained pockets of moisture after the extraction process has completed. We work to service these spots directly, lowering the overall relative humidity within the building well below acceptable parameters. Our initiative is first to provide fast and thorough water restoration, but secondly to discourage other effects such as mold growth from occurring.

As the overseer of one of the schools within the district, you should have a plan in place to recover the damages to the facility whenever disaster strikes. The Best Way to Avoid a Mold Infestation After Glenwood Springs Flooding

10/30/2018 (Permalink)

When flood waters overwhelm your home, your best course of action is to contact SERVPRO for water removal and remediation services.

The Importance of a Strong Response to Flood Damage Claims in Glenwood Springs

Flash flooding can be caused by heavy rainfall, adverse weather conditions or storms, causing unprecedented levels of damage to your personal property. Usually, nearby road drainage systems become overloading and begin to spill out onto the street and into nearby residences. Flood water is at high risk of cross-contamination from raw sewage, animal carcasses, herbicides or other potential pathogens. That is why booking a professional restoration service is essential.

Properties with flood damage in Glenwood Springs rely on local services for rapid recovery. SERVPRO operates locally but has access to national resources allowing us to bring in truck-mounted extractors and submersible gas pumps to remove standing water fast. When an initial assessment reveals the presence of Blackwater (contaminated water), we can remove and dispose of BioHazard substances by OSHA regulations.

Standing water of above 2 inches in height can be removed using gas-powered pumps and are extremely quick at removing water and limiting loss. With excess water removed, we can move in using portable extractors. These are accurate vacuum powered dryers with heated wands that help us to reach difficult to access areas around the home. These advanced wands can dry between floorboards as well as crawl spaces.

When fabrics become wet, they are up to 50% weaker than when dry. For that reason, SERVPRO prefers to use lighter drying equipment several times over the same spot to avoid causing damage during cleanup. We may need to pull up carpets so that we can thoroughly dry both sides and apply anti-microbial treatments to avoid secondary damages from mold growth. We live and work in this community and are happy to share easy to apply preventative techniques to lessen flood damages when they occur.

The longer standing water is left, the higher the chances are of permanent damage. Mitigate the loss with SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties. Arrange a service by dialing (970) 618-1516 anytime day or night.

You Can Count On Our Team To Restore Your Mold Damaged New Castle Home

10/19/2018 (Permalink)

Mold spores usually stay unnoticed in New Castle homes until it has spread over a large area.

Remediating Mold Damage In New Castle Homes

Mold spores usually stay unnoticed in New Castle homes until it has spread over a large area. Too many people depend on that ‘musty’ odor, but that is too late, and not all mold generates a distinctive smell. By this point, the mold spores have expanded into a large colony.

Remediating the effects of mold damage to a New Castle requires a professional agency. Every SERVPRO office maintains restoration teams trained to the industry stands as required by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration (IICRC) to safely clean and remove mold from each residence.

Team members first determine what type of surface the mold has damaged. A quick inspection determines what tools and cleaning methods they need to use and how much time they need to finish each task. Affected surfaces usually divided into three categories: porous, nonporous, and semi-porous.

Examples of porous surfaces are building materials like ceiling tiles and fabrics such as curtains and upholstery. Our teams can usually clean fabrics with the right chemical and a stiff brush, but if the mold has had time to grow into the surface of the ceiling tiles, it is often cheaper to dispose and replace them than waste labor and supplies attempting to restore them. Technicians can also use vacuums with HEPA filters designed to capture even a single mold spore off surfaces like curtains and upholstered items like sofas.

Nonporous surfaces are easier to clean. With items like glass and metal tabletops and marble slab kitchen countertops, SERVPRO team members can remove the mold with dry cloths and sponges. They wipe them down from top to bottom to ensure they remove all active spores. For thicker mold layers, technicians may use a cleaning agent to break them up for easier removal.

Semi-porous surfaces often require methods and tools simply not usable other surfaces. Concrete patios and wood floors may require team members to use abrasive cleaners and wire brushes that would damage glass to get into the cracks and crevices to remove all of the spores. If the mold penetrated the surface of the wood, technicians might have to use hand or power sander to remove the uppermost surface layer to get rid of it.

Stopping and removing mold from your home is not an easy or quick process. With the right tools and IICRC training, SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties can return your home to a clean, safe condition as quickly as possible. If you need our services, call us at (970) 618-1516 today.

How to Restore Your New Castle Home From Minor Fire Damage

10/8/2018 (Permalink)

Even a small fire causes a lot of damage. SERVPRO has the training and experience to restore your home to its original condition.

Any Household Fire Damage In New Castle Needs Professional Remediation.

The relief you feel when an unexpected fire in your home quickly extinguishes can fade if the cleanup afterward is inadequate. Attempting to manage the tasks needed after what seems only to be a minor fire is never as straightforward as a homeowner wants to believe. One of our core services is fire restoration. Let us return your home to “Like it never even happened.” condition.

Fire damage cleanup in New Castle needs a professional touch to be successful. When our crew arrives, be assured you are partnering with a well-qualified and equipped team of experts. Cleaning after a fire is a different sort of challenge than the efforts required for normal soiling or everyday wear and tear. Our professionals can restore fire damage using techniques mastered during IICRC training and products and equipment specially formulated or designed for the task.

Fire damage residues are toxic, exposing those who clean and restore to the risk of harm. SERVPRO technicians train to complete soot and odor removal efficiently and safely. We know how disruptive it is even to consider a move-out during restoration procedures. Our crews always strive to contain the smoke and soot damaged areas, permitting you and your family to remain in the home while we do our work. Physical barriers and modern equipment like negative pressure air scrubbers prevent debris from invading the rest of your living space as we do our work.

It is crucial that soot removal happens swiftly after a home fire. The residues left by fire are highly acidic and begin to damage all building materials and personal possessions immediately. The SERVPRO crew moves confidently and quickly through your fire-damaged home, understanding how the smoke and soot moved ahead of them. We match cleaning methods to the type of soot soiling we observe in your home. Our training and experience ensure fast and appropriate solutions that halt the progressive damage and prepare the surfaces and items affected for the final restoration.

Our technicians have equipment at their disposal that homeowners do not. SERVPRO crews have the skills to recover the function and appearance of items you might believe ruined. We help save memories and avoid replacement costs.

SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties is ready to respond to your request for fire damage restoration round the clock. Call us at (970) 618-1516 to schedule an evaluation regardless of the size or duration of the fire.

What SERVPRO Can Teach You About Gutter Maintenance For Your Glenwood Springs Home

9/27/2018 (Permalink)

Water damage in Glenwood Springs is often linked to aging or damaged roofs and gutters.

Avoid Water Damage In Glenwood Springs With Fall Gutter Maintenance

As the seasons change homeowners in Glenwood Springs, have the opportunity to limit interior water damage by completing routine home maintenance and making plans for emergency water loss. September is National Preparedness Month, the perfect time to review and inspect the exterior drainage systems of your home for areas of weakness. If water does invade, we can help with remediation and restoration.

Water damage in Glenwood Springs is often linked to aging or damaged roofs and gutters. A sound and secure roof is your first defense against the rain, sleet, and snow our area experiences at different times of the year. The gutters and downspouts attached at roof edges should direct the precipitation off the roof, down to the ground, angled away from the foundation. If any part of this system does not work as intended, water can enter your home, causing damage to the structure and contents.

SERVPRO often finds and restores precipitation-related water damage in attics or lower levels, the issues surprising homeowners who did not notice obvious leaks. Gutters that fill with leaves, sticks, and other debris, including granules from asphalt shingles harmed by hail, wind, or heavy rain, can become clogged with these materials. During rainstorms the blocked gutters and downspouts overflow. Some water might push under shingles and make its way into the attic framing and rafters. Water that gushes over the gutters pounds into the soil, saturating the ground next to the foundation of your home, eventually seeping through and into your basement or crawl space.

Scheduling an inspection and then arranging for the cleaning and repair of poorly draining gutters and downspouts should be an autumn ritual. Waiting or ignoring the issues risks further damage from ice dams when the temperatures fall below freezing. An ice dam forms when the melting snow cannot drain because of clogged gutters. As the trapped water freezes, it pushes up on the edges of shingles, forcing moisture inside. SERVPRO crews know to look for gutter issues when staining makes its way down walls. Foundation moisture problems likewise link to broken, clogged, or inappropriately attached gutters and downspouts.

SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties often sees the damage clogged, broken, or loose gutters and downspouts cause. We can restore the issues caused by water damage and help arrange for repairs to the drainage system. Call (970) 618-1516 to set up an appointment for an assessment.

The Real Truth About Possible Secondary Mold Damage After Water Damage in a Glenwood Springs Municipal Complex

9/21/2018 (Permalink)

If your municipal building has an incident that calls for water cleanup, call team SERVPRO to arrive timely and mitigate the damage.

Water Cleanup Services for Your Glenwood Springs Municipal Building

From obtaining construction permits for the immediate area to allowing residents a place to air their grievances to authorities, your Glenwood Springs municipal building stays busy through its operating hours. Unexpected incidents can threaten your ability to provide the full scope of the services and departments available to the public, even with dedicated maintenance and custodial staff available.

While you might look to situations of water cleanup in Glenwood Springs as tasks that the custodial team at your building could handle, there are several considerations that you must make in this scenario. The first of these is the speed with which this staff can get to the problem at hand and clean it up. The longer the problem persists, the more problems that it could cause and the longer it remains a threat to the safety of those using affected areas of your building. Choosing professional water cleanup services from our SERVPRO team can help to get the situation resolved quickly.

A persistent, lingering safety hazard of water damages present in your building is a bad situation with the foot traffic you anticipate on a daily basis. Even without the possibility of injury, secondary effects like mold growth can occur in as little as three days. This situation poses an even more immediate risk to the staff and traffic throughout the building exposed to an active, growing colony.

Another consideration that you need to make is the thorough nature of services like our SERVPRO team can provide. From moisture detection equipment to thermal imagery software in tools, we can ensure that moisture present from the incident gets wholly dried up. This assurance not only eliminates the likelihood of mold growth, but it also can help to preserve the strength and integrity of building materials that became affected by the water.

While smaller scale water incidents in your building might seem best suited for the custodial staff, water can spread quickly and affect many areas out of the immediate line of sight. Trust in the experience and equipment of our SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties restoration specialists to help you ensure that the job gets done correctly. Give us a call 24/7 at (970) 618-1516.

Post-Fire Flood Damage Assistance in Glenwood Springs

Glenwood Springs Flooding? Contact SERVPRO for Water Removal and Restoration

Flooding Disasters in Glenwood Springs Properties Require Professional Help--Call SERVPRO

The aftermath of wildfires near Glenwood Springs does not end when the flames extinguish. Severe rain and thunderstorms build in the mountains and threaten the already devastated landscape with flooding. Homeowners who breathed sighs of relief when the fire veered elsewhere now struggle with walls of relentless waters and the harm they do. You need our trained technicians and commercial grade equipment in your corner.

Flood damage in Glenwood Springs is often better managed if we work with the homeowner to pack out personal possessions, window coverings, documents and memorabilia, and furnishings. Achieving water removal and structural drying moves more quickly if the portable contents of your home are moved to a dry area elsewhere on your property or to our production facility. Rigorous inventory and tracking systems ensure we keep track of your property. Advanced training in cleaning, sanitizing, and drying means we save many articles, regaining both function and appearance.

The SERVPRO crew members at your home then concentrate on a swift and thorough process of water removal. Flood waters typically contain contaminants ranging from chemicals picked up from the surrounding ground to sewage or animal debris. We offer containment and hazardous waste disposal options for our customers. Once we extract tainted fluids, including hidden pockets of floodwaters that we discovered using advanced scanning equipment and moisture meters, we choose EPA registered disinfectants to destroy any lingering pathogens.

To avoid progressive water-based deterioration and secondary microbial growth,  SERVPRO crews then thoroughly dry out your home. We base our drying goals on moisture measurement we continuously check. A balance of air movement, heat, and dehumidification is found and maintained eventually bringing the affected building materials back to normal moisture levels.

If any of the flooded spaces are carpeted, SERVPRO crews might attempt an aggressive extraction approach. Contamination concerns suggest we consider removing the padding, a relatively inexpensive way to hasten the drying while decreasing the chance of residual hazardous substances. New padding and a thoroughly dried and disinfected carpet minimize the expense of replacing an expanse of wall to wall floor covering after flood damage. This above procedure is only possible if the water is not Black Water. Often, we must dispose of the padding and carpets, safety first.

SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties prepares for the challenges of flood damage remediation after wildfire. If you survive the flames to be nearly drowned in flood waters, call us at (970) 618-1516 to schedule an assessment.

How to Spot Mold Growth in Your Silt Home

8/31/2018 (Permalink)

Silt Property Owners Know Their Homes Get Great Mold Remediation from SERVPRO

Silt Homeowners Rely on SERVPRO for Mold Remediation

Taking care of your Silt residence means staying aware of even the slightest of changes. Your home can communicate with you to indicate when something is amiss, and these signs can often help you diagnose potential problems that could occur or might already be happening. For example, understanding the conditions and warning signs for mold growth can help to prevent or more readily remediate this occurrence.

When Silt property owners think of mold damages, they often do not fully understand how this episode even happens, let alone how to prevent it in the first place. One of the first things that you need to know is how mold growth can happen, namely, what conditions must get met to support this colonization. For mold spores to develop, moisture is necessary. This requirement is why our SERVPRO technicians find mold growth in places like your basement.

Darkness is not a requirement, but a lack of natural light does allow for mold colonies to spread more rapidly between organic materials. One thing that is a requirement is warmer temperatures, which are often readily available in the basement of your home. Some species can flourish at the freezing mark. Most houses have the heating and cooling units in this lower level, offering plenty of constant temperature for mold to seat and spread.

Our SERVPRO professionals can help you to remediate this occurrence in your home when it gets discovered, but many homeowners do not always know what to hunt. Active colonies tend to give off a musty odor often, and so even if you cannot see a colony, this odor could indicate one growing and thriving out of sight. Another symptom that you can look out for is spotting on surfaces like drywall. These could initially appear very faint, so thorough inspections throughout potential problem areas with a flashlight can help you find these colonies before they spread out of control.

If you do discover mold growth in your basement, reach out to the professional remediation team we have at SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties. We can help you to preserve the structural integrity of your home from this destructive force, and work efficiently to reduce and ultimately remove the health risks associated with mold colony exposure. Give us a call anytime at (970) 618-1516.

Hot, Dry Conditions Increase Risk of Fire Damage in Silt and Other Areas of Garfield County

8/17/2018 (Permalink)

Fire damage, regardless of the cause, is destructive. Call SERVPRO for remediation efforts if your home ever experiences a fire.

Team SERVPRO Understands That Remediating Fire Damage Also Includes Dealing With the Remaining Water Used to Put Out the Fire

The daily reports of wildfires in many areas of the country concern residents of Silt. Wildfires are a powerful force of nature, capable of taking down entire communities. Even with the controlled prescribed burns authorities attempt before high wildfire season, residents must be vigilant. Wildfires are a reminder of the destruction any fire can do. If a fire from any source affects your home regardless of precautions, our trained and experienced fire damage restoration technicians can help.

When fire damages your Silt home lining up professional remediation services must occur sooner rather than later. Even though the stress and confusion of surviving a fire can interfere with calm and reasonable reactions, the residues left behind after a household fire cause immediate and progressive damage to all types of structural components and contents. Our highly qualified technicians are ready to take action swiftly to clean up, restore, and deodorize your home after any fire.

The first task SERVPRO crews usually take on when called to a fire scene is water and chemical extinguisher removal. Firefighters do not stint on the resources used to put out the fire, but the water and powdered or foam left behind pose their own dangers. Just a film of water and powdered fire deterrent chemicals cause a slip and fall hazard. Inches or feet of water are not unheard of in firefighting circumstances, saturating building materials and exposing restorers to electric shock risks. Evacuating the water and drying the structure avoids the deterioration and secondary damage moisture brings about before the fire damage remediation is even considered.

Once the water damage issues stabilize, SERVPRO crews assess the harm done by the flames and the smoke and soot that spread through your property. Soot can be sorted into three main categories, and each requires a different approach for cleanup to be most effective. Light, ashy soot from fast, hot-burning fires often responds well to vacuuming and dry sponging. Thick, sticky soot from a smoldering electrical or textile fire can need a surfactant or wetting agent application and perhaps some agitation or abrasive action with appropriate tools to loosen up enough to be wiped away. Protein fires deposit thin, challenging to remove coatings that are almost invisible but smell strongly. Abrasives and solvents are the pair of choice, stripping the residue food and grease fires leave.

SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties cultivates a team of well-trained experts to attend to your fire damage scenarios. Whether a wildfire jumps a firebreak or your dinner preparation goes horribly wrong with a grease fire call (970) 618-1516 for assistance from IICRC certified technicians backed by innovative products and equipment.

Causes and Solutions For Water Damage in Glenwood Springs

SERVPRO Extracts Water and Checks with Thermal Imaging to Ensure Homes in Glenwood Springs Are Restored, "Like it never even happened."

Glenwood Springs Property Owns Depend Upon SERVPRO for Fast and Efficient Water Removal

Flooding from storms and municipal utility emergencies are devastating but are not daily occurrences in Glenwood Springs. Other types of water incursions might be happening right now in your residence, unnoticed but capable of causing severe damage over time. The highly-qualified technicians on our water damage teams are up to any challenge.

Little leaks that build over time are much more likely to cause water damage in your Glenwood Springs than one catastrophic event. Do not make a mistake and believe that the puddle of water you see on occasion under the sink is an isolated incident or that the peeling on the wall is just evidence of a low-quality paint. Catching water incursions early is crucial to preventing the deterioration of structural components and avoiding secondary damage such as mold growth. Our employees are trained to identify water damage in its many disguises.

SERVPRO pinpoints the source of the water damaging your home so repairs to eliminate the leaks or seepage can be arranged. Then our crew chief assesses the damage and designs a plan to remove any standing water and dry out the affected spaces thoroughly. We search for hidden water under cabinets and between walls, the migration of moisture often the reason that small leak seemed minor. Our truck-mounted pumps and wanded extractors pull the water out, sometimes with the help of holes drilled or sections of drywall removed to release trapped caches in cavities. If a ceiling appears buckled, we punch holes carefully to free any reservoirs captured above a room or hallway.

Our employees are expert at employing moisture sensors and meters as well as thermo-hygrometers to establish baseline moisture and temperature levels in the damaged building materials. The collected data helps establish drying goals, and periodic use of the tools throughout the project informs us when sufficient drying is complete. Air movers, heaters, and dehumidifiers are positioned and operated to create a balance that coaxes water saturated inside structural components to move into the drier air where the dehumidifiers condense and contain the moisture for disposal.

Rely on the confident and reliable team at SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties to help with your water damage woes. We are available 24/7 with just a call to (970) 618-1516.

1: BASIC CLEANUP

the basic minimum crawlspace cleanup should include removal of debris and all materials that are conductive to mold growth, especially if there is already mold or fungi on it.  All crawlspaces should have a vapor barrier at the very least.  Sealing all wood with an anti-microbial coating is optional except in cases of moderate to heavy mold growth.

2: COMPLETE (encapsulation)

In addition to the basic cleanup, all wood materials can be sealed with an anti-microbial coating.  The foundation vents are closed off.  Heavy duty vapor barrier or liner is installed from the top of the concrete stem walls and over the entire ground surface will all the seams sealed.
