Spring Cleaning for your Snowmass Business

6/2/2022 (Permalink)

The spring cleaning season has established itself as a go-to season for more extensive cleaning jobs. Although this is most frequently linked with private houses, it is just as important in businesses. Everyone is cooped up inside during the frigid winter months, and messes begin to build. Cleaning helps create a more open and less stressful work environment for employees; a clean and pleasant business environment helps attract clients.

Cleaning isn't likely to be towards the top of your to-do list unless you're the archetypal Danny Tanner or Monica Geller. So we're here to make that part easier for you by compiling a list of key locations to inspect during your spring cleaning.

Windows

Windows are one of the simplest yet crucial areas to clean. Beyond making sure you have squeaky clean windows, check to ensure they have tight seals. Small gaps in window seals can cause cool air to seep out (and warm air in the winter months) and allow water to trickle in. Checking caulking and weather stripping remains intact and up to par can save you money in the long term.

Landscaping

This is very important for the presentation of your business. The grass, flowers, weeds, and other plants are starting to grow, and it's important to begin grooming your landscape. Don't wait till your plants get out of control. Hire someone now, or take some time yourself to pull the weeds, mow the grass, and trim any trees or bushes. Additionally, this is a great time to plant some flowers if you want to spruce up your place of business.

AC/HVAC

When switching your building's air flow system from heating to air conditioning, now is the optimum time to perform a quality inspection. Run your system for a time to make sure it's working correctly, and look for any outdated or out-of-date parts that need to be replaced. Clean up the ventilation system by removing dust and any other debris that may have accumulated inside. Because ventilation systems are infrequently cleaned, many building owners discover bug infestations or mold issues when cleaning their vents and ducts. It's better to take these safeguards while the weather is still fluctuating.

Pest Maintenance

Along with the rebirthed trees and plants, spring also brings back hordes of pests. Ants, spiders, termites, mosquitoes, and even bed bugs can become problems. It's best to take preventative measures to ward off pests instead of being forced to shut the business down for weeks to fumigate for difficulties. Keep in mind your locale because different areas attract different pests. This will help inform you what to spray. Lastly, if you are continually having the same pest problems year after year, try to identify external factors that might be attracting those pests and any defects in your building that might be letting them in.

Does your Aspen Business have a Mold problem?

3/8/2022 (Permalink)

Mold in the wall Mold in the wall

In as little as 48 hours, mold can quickly become a problem in your home or business when there’s a water intrusion, like a roof leak or a leaking water line. Mold can cause health effects and can also cause significant damage to your property. For example, SERVPRO Franchise Professionals have the training, protective gear, and specialized equipment necessary to handle your mold problem.

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, outdoors and indoors, making it impossible to remove all mold from a business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin techniques guarantees the successful restoration of your property and stabilizing your indoor air quality because we hold the Applied Microbial Remediation certification and the Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC Certified). Best ways to Keep your Rifle Business Free from Mold

3/3/2022 (Permalink)

Mold can be very challenging to deal with. It can sometimes be challenging to spot, it pollutes the air, and it can even threaten the structural integrity of your establishment. Once it starts, it can spread very quickly. Not only can it cause damage, but it can affect people’s health.

Mold is primarily caused by uncontrolled moisture that can grow on various surfaces, cloth, carpets, drywall, and wood. With a large commercial building keeping everyone cool or warm, condensation can form and provide the mold the moisture it needs to spread.

Regular cleanings and maintenance inspections will help keep mold from taking over the building areas that are not often used.

Minimize moisture

Mold thrives on moisture. The more excess dampness you have around your commercial building, the more chances you have of ending up with a mold problem. Condensation can form during the hot months, during the cold months, at any time, and people can cause condensation.

A dehumidifier will help draw moisture out of the air. It can make a big difference in a very populated building, and turning off the heat or air conditioning is not an option.

Please put them in areas when moisture is prevalent. Basements, upper floors, kitchens or cafeterias, shower rooms, laundry rooms, and anywhere that has excessive moisture. Remember to check windows and doors for condensation build-up too. If you see a lot of humidity here, this could signify that you need new windows.

Service your HVAC unit

It’s essential to ensure that the HVAC system remains clean and good condition. If your filters are clogged up with mold spores, then every time you turn the AC on, you’ll be blowing them around the building. The vents, ducts, and the rest all need to be maintained.

When the air is not moving through the vents, dust and mold can sit there, so the room fills with it all when you turn it back on. Any amount of hair, dust, dirt, animal hair and waste, and mold can be in the vents.

Make Repairs fast

Fixing minor problems will help them from becoming big problems. Leaks in the roof or foundation, cracks in the walls, gaps around windows, taps, pipes that drip or leak, and faulty thermostats. Unfortunately, the longer you leave problems unattended, the worse they can become.

These can all allow heat and cold air in or out, making it harder to control the humidity inside the building. Always try to catch water damage and leaks before the added moisture can cause long-term damage.

Stay vigilant

Mold isn’t always noticeable straight away. It’s a great idea to have your maintenance team take care of regular checks and repairs but hiring a professional to inspect the building can help. They can spot areas that may be developing mold that you are not aware of. Dark spots, fuzzy patches, musty smells can all appear anywhere. Carpets, walls, ceilings, floors, and under sinks, behind walls in shower rooms, laundry room, bathrooms, and kitchen areas. They are also great at finding areas of potential mold too, so you can stop it before it gets a chance to start.

Seek professional support

Finally, remember that every commercial building often has its unique issues and requirements to consider.

If you find mold, call a professional team to take care of it right away. You don’t want to try and clean it by yourself. Our SERVPRO team are Professionals who have the right tools, equipment, and products to take care of it. We specialize in mold removal from residential and commercial buildings and can assist with ridding your property of any mold and residual spores. You can trust SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin counties to take care of any mold problems you encounter in your commercial building. We are a 24/7 emergency response. Call us today at 970-618-1516.

Preventing Water Damage at Your Carbondale Business

3/2/2022 (Permalink)

Advanced drying equipment Advanced drying equipment

All buildings are different, but each is at risk for water damage. From a minor roof leak to violently destructive hurricanes, any unwanted water intrusion can significantly impact the value of a commercial property.

If your business experiences a water-related incident, you’ll need to act quickly to mitigate the damage. Small business insurance can also play a crucial role in lessening the financial impact. However, it’s best to prevent such occurrences from happening in the first place.

Use these tips to protect your business from flooding and freezing damage.

Inspect gutters and drainage

Fallen leaves and other debris in gutters and downspouts can lead to water damage to the exterior and interior walls. Regularly inspect your business’s gutters, downspouts, and drainage system, and remove any debris or buildup.

Conduct Regular Inspections

The components of a commercial building are diverse and complex. Unlike residential property, commercial buildings tend to have major external HVAC components, roofs decorated with an array of pipes and fans, and large utility rooms. The best way to keep the harsh weather outside is to hire a professional to conduct frequent and thorough inspections.

Insulate exposed pipes

Exposed pipes during the winter are vulnerable to freezing. Plummeting temperatures can freeze water inside a poorly insulated pipe, causing the pipe to burst. A broken line can lead to costly flooding or even structural damage. Ensure the pipes are insulated. The more insulation you use, the better protected your lines will be.

Locate your shut-off valve

If a pipe breaks, you’ll need to act quickly. That means you should know the location of the main shut-off valve for your building’s water supply. Shutting off the main valve will temporarily cut the water flow to the building, preventing flooding until you can fix the problem.

Seal cracks and gaps

Seal any cracks, holes, or other gaps in your building’s exterior and foundation to ensure that cold air doesn’t penetrate your structure, and warm air doesn’t escape. Caulk, weather stripping, and other sealants can be used to make your building more energy-efficient and reduce the risk of frozen pipes.

Protect your business with insurance

It’s essential to have adequate insurance if you experience water or freezing damage for small business insurance—the details of your coverage matter. Ask your insurer to add an endorsement, to your policy to extend coverage to hazards that are excluded from your policy to ensure your business is protected.

Rapid response to water damage events

Even the most carefully operated commercial building will likely experience a water damage event sometime in its lifetime. Building staff should have a well-practiced emergency response plan. Often the speed of response to a water damage event is the most vital key to getting back to normal day-to-day operations quickly.

Have a Plan B

Ideally, each commercial building should have options for temporary office space and plans to inform clients of quick changes in the case of severe water damage. Additionally, it’d never be a poor use of time to back up critical paperwork electronically.

Remember, SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties is ready to help you restore water damage and get back to normal. Our number one priority is getting your home or business back to preloss condition as quickly as possible. We are a 24/7 emergency response. Call us today at 970-618-1516.

The Most Common Types of Water Damage

2/14/2022 (Permalink)

Technicians wearing protective gear Technicians wearing protective gear

We know firsthand how disastrous commercial water damage can be and how it can impact your business. Acting quickly to mitigate water damage is crucial, which is why it's essential for all companies to know the common causes of commercial water damage, how to spot them, and what to do if you find signs of water damage in your office building or commercial property.

The top five most common reasons your business can experience water damage and need restoration services are:

Weather

Severe weather can cause flash flooding and water damage to your property. From improper draining of water on the outside of your building to the slope of your lot, water damage can affect your roof and foundation. Check gutters and drain spouts to ensure water can flow easily through the channels and is directed away from your property's foundation.

Faulty Equipment

Many appliances are susceptible to wear over time from the breakroom kitchen, bathrooms, and utility rooms. Any machine that holds water can fail, especially if proper routine maintenance has been neglected. Regular maintenance checks of the dishwasher, sump pump, water heater, and toilets could save you from a surprise and messy leak.

Broken Pipes

The age of the building can indicate the needed maintenance or repair of the property. As water runs through plumbing lines, it will expand and contract as it varies in temperature. Over time, this can cause the lines to crack or burst. For example, you can notice leaky pipes if there is discoloration or staining on the ceiling or walls and the flooring's sagging, bulging or buckling.

Damp Smell

Water damage can contribute to mold and mildew growth. This growth is likely to occur in areas with poor ventilation; dark spots are hidden from plain-view or grow within or behind surfaces such as drywall, subflooring, or carpeting. A damp, musty smell will accompany it. Mold can negatively impact the air quality of your building.

When you need expedited commercial water damage repair, contact SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin at 970-618-1516; our trained, certified technicians are available 24/7 to take your call and perform any needed restoration services on your property; to do the damage, "Like it never even happened."

How to Prepare your Commercial Property for the Winter

11/16/2021 (Permalink)

stairs cover in snow stairs cover in snow

Cold temperatures and winter storms can severely damage commercial property, resulting in costly repairs and possible disruption of tenant business or decreases in the property’s value. Preventative measures are always a good idea to keep your employees or tenants safe and your business investment secure.

Shut down irrigation systems.

If your commercial property has sprinklers, you’ll need to winterize them to ensure damage doesn’t occur during the winter properly. Drain the irrigation system of water and shut down the control box until spring arrives.

Parking lot

If your commercial property has a parking lot, head off accidents by keeping it clear of snow and sprinkling salt or other material on it to increase vehicle traction and prevent accidents. A clear, safe parking lot is more appealing to customers and potential tenants.

Insulation

Insulation helps keep the heat inside your building, which is what you want during winter. To ensure it’s working optimally, inspect your insulation for holes or jeopardized areas that may lead to heat loss.

Roofing

Make sure you inspect the roof to prevent leaks and other costly problems from developing, especially if you’re in an area likely to receive snowfall. When examining the roof, check all flashing and seals and make sure the structure is sound enough to hold the weight of snow and ice that is sure to come.

Plumbing

Frozen pipes are a common cause of expensive damage in commercial buildings, so looking over your plumbing now can save you time, trouble, and cash come winter. Ensure any freeze protection devices are operational, and test freeze stats and valves to ensure there are no leaks.

HVAC Check-up

Your HVAC system will be working extra hard on the heat setting, so it’s best to check how your system is working before the harsh weather sets in. Be sure to change out any air filters and check that exhaust gases are being appropriately ventilated.

Remember, SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin is ready to assist you with water damage restoration and help you get back to normal. Getting your home or business back to preloss condition as quickly as possible is our number one priority. We are a 24/7 emergency response. Call us today at 970-618-1516.

While the business and commercial buildings can face the same kind of threats from water, fire, and mold that private residences do, commercial restoration holds several unique challenges that can make it more difficult.

To perform a complete restoration of commercial properties, it’s important to recognize these differences:

  1. Commercial buildings are large – generally speaking, commercial properties tend to be much bigger than homes, making performing restoration services more difficult.

While home restoration can be accomplished using smaller pumps and vacuums, commercial properties may require larger, industrial-grade equipment.

It can also require much more equipment and cleaning supplies and may require a greater amount of personnel to tackle the job properly.

  2. Commercial restoration may require more expertise- because commercial properties are larger and more complex, and performing a full restoration may require more extensive expertise, training, and experience.

Your business is your financial lifeline, and you can’t afford to leave it in the hands of a restoration company that isn’t adequately prepared to handle the job.

  3. Commercial projects can have time constraints – when it comes to business, time can literally be money. You can’t afford to have your business shut down any longer than is necessary.

Commercial Mitigation

Sprinkler systems can be a common source of water damage in commercial facilities. While their benefits far outweigh their cons, both properly and improperly working sprinkler systems can contribute to a flooded facility. In this case, a fire in an adjacent building caused the sprinkler system in this building to go off over the weekend. The sprinkler shut-off was eventually found, but not until the damage had affected the facility's 36,000 sq ft. If this was your facility, what would you do?

4 Disaster Preparedness Tips for Your Business

Word writing text Time To Plan. Business concept for Preparation of things Getting Ready Think other solutions You need a fire preparation plan just in case

Tips For Your Business In Case Of A Fire

You invest a lot of money and time in your business in New Castle, CO, so it logically follows that you want to protect it from a catastrophic event. The extent of your fire preparation strategies can mean the difference between recovery and complete loss. These tips can help get you ready, just in case a fire occurs.

1. Address Risks
As a business owner, you can't just assume that your building is protected from fire; you have to be sure. During your annual inspection, walk the building with the fire marshal to see what needs to be fixed. Don't just settle for the bare minimum standards required to pass inspection but rather invest the necessary expense to ensure your building is unlikely to be completely destroyed in a fire.

2. Protect Important Items
After you have made sure your building is as safe as possible, you must take precautions to protect the items within it from fire damage. Back up every important file on the cloud or in a shared drive in an external location on a regular basis. Elevate electronic equipment off the floor, particularly on lower levels, to help protect it from the flooding that happens when firefighters put out the fire.

3. Develop a Plan
There's no such thing as eliminating the possibility that a fire can break out in your building. Therefore, you need a fire preparation plan just in case. According to fire restoration experts, this plan should include not only a clear path for getting out of the building but also who is in charge of everything that needs to happen during an emergency.

4. Practice the Plan
Even the best disaster preparation plan doesn't do you any good if no one knows what it is. Have regular fire drills so that everyone in the building can walk through exactly what they would do if the building was actually on fire.
You may not be able to avoid a fire at your place of business. By taking these precautions, however, you can help minimize the overall damage.

We Can Handle Any Water Damage Issue In Your Garfield Business

11/11/2019 (Permalink)

When you have an emergency we can immediately dispatch a team of industry certified technicians to remediate any situation.

A Garfield Warehouse Benefits from Prompt Commercial Water Removal

We received a call from the business owner informing us that water had pooled in his warehouse. We arrived quickly after that call and started the water extraction process for the affected areas of the warehouse. Since we were concerned about damage to the stored products, we planned out our scope to protect the owner from losing money and time.

Prompt commercial water removal in the Garfield warehouse helped prevent heavy loss of merchandise. Water loss incidents in warehouses can disrupt the regular work hours, routines, and availability of staff. People who work in a warehouse can see their schedules curtailed, depending on how long it takes to rectify the destruction. With the help of specialized equipment like electric submersible pumps, our SERVPRO technicians quickly removed the water.

We also used moisture detection tools to check for hidden moisture in walls and flooring. Moisture often leads to a mold infestation that could become severe enough to warrant demolition of affected structures. Our crew removed stored inventory from the affected areas to keep it from becoming an impediment to the restoration work that was taking place in the facility.

After extracting water damage from the facility, we dried the affected surfaces to remove all the moisture. Moisture can get absorbed into most finishing materials, leading to their spoilage and formation of unpleasant odor. Our technicians dried and dehumidified the warehouse to reduce the likelihood of negative consequences. For complete drying and dehumidification of the facility, our SERVPRO team used specialized equipment including:

Axial air movers – They provide high-speed circulation of air masses, activating the process of separation of moisture from affected surfaces. Axial air movers deliver low pressure at higher volume and can, therefore, cover large areas of affected materials.

Low Grain Refrigerant (LGR) dehumidifiers – They eliminate moisture from the air and offer the advantage of drying spaces to a lower humidity ratio. These dehumidifiers speed up the drying process as humidity in affected areas lowers, and they are more effective at drying difficult materials.

Our team carefully monitored each stage of the drying process and performed the necessary measurements to control the humidity levels in the facility. Soaked objects and materials can emit an unpleasant scent of mustiness and dampness. To prevent such consequences, our team deodorized the affected areas using fogging equipment.

If you are dealing with a water intrusion problem in your warehouse, call SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties at (970) 618-1516 for quick restoration. We can handle the issue to make it “Like it never even happened.”

Some Simple Steps to an Effective Commercial Flood Damage Strategy in Silt

9/29/2019 (Permalink)

Flooding can be completely overwhelming. Contact SERVPRO should your office building have excess standing water and flood damage.

How SERVPRO Turns Around Commercial Flood Damage in Silt Real Estate Office

Commercial flood damage halts the operation of the business until there is the removal of the water and the property is both dried and disinfected.

When groundwater breaches into a Silt business causing commercial flood damage, cleanup efforts should begin as fast as possible because as each minute passes, the level of damage to the structure increases. A business where foot traffic from the public is common needs to look and be clean; this is especially true in a real estate office where first impressions and curb appeal are everything.

Flood Loss Items Need Fast Removal

Carpet soaked by groundwater is a loss and does not have restoration potential. Water damaged sheetrock undergoes removal and baseboards too as needed. As water extraction efforts continue in the property, technicians go item by item to ascertain, which among them is a loss and what is restorable.

Pack Out of Important Documents

Listings, leads, and more are the life's blood of a real estate office. A pack out would commonly occur to ensure the critical documents went to safe storage until the cleanup of the damage from the flood water efforts completed.

Limiting Disruptions During Cleanup

SERVPRO technicians know that in the real estate market, any amount of downtime means the potential for a loss of income. They work quickly and dry large furnishings in place raised on blocks when possible. In cases where technicians performed a pack out, they return every item back to the place they removed it from after drying and disinfection of the property.

Restoration and Rebuilding

To get a business such as a real estate office reopened, it must have repairs done. Technicians work to get the property ready for any needed construction and give the property owner a list of the required repairs to return the business to its pre-flood condition.

SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties is ready to address commercial flood damage of any size. Our technicians work quickly to limit the loss and get your business reopened. We are available 24/7 by calling (970) 618-1516 to make the incident, "Like it never even happened."

The sooner you can recover, “Like it never even happened,” the less likely it becomes for the flood damage to have permanent ill effects on your business. It might seem highly cost-effective to have your employees clean things up after a flood. However, when contaminated water covers large areas or affects numerous pieces of inventory and furnishings, the risks increase significantly to both your employees’ health and to anything not yet damaged.

Technicians at SERVPRO study and participate in in-house training to earn recognition from the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). The areas covered during our studies include the wide variety of proper cleaning methods and techniques to cover the diverse materials found in homes and businesses today. Our goal is to help businesses recover after disasters affect their buildings as quickly as possible, restoring functionality and safety, so people do not experience health effects or other issues.

With flooding, damage includes swelling up of flooring materials, an overload of pathogens and chemicals on everything touched by the water, dramatically increased humidity, odors, debris, and other risk-filled changes. Mitigating the area and eliminating these problems requires that workers stay protected with proper personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as understand both the risks and the techniques necessary to avoid injury. Because every team member at SERVPRO arrives prepared with both mitigation equipment and their own PPE, safely restoring your store or office occurs efficiently and in a safe manner.

No matter how minor a hotel water damage incident is, taking care of it soon is vital. Water may ruin tile, hardwood and carpet flooring, and the wood sub-floor beneath the carpeting. It can also make its way into other surfaces and areas like ceilings. If the floor above gets flooded, the ceiling of the room below can sustain damage. We remove the pad from the structure and discard it in most cases.

We also use a combination of dehumidifiers, high capacity air movers and dryers to dry out a structure. We use the appropriate number of dehumidifiers and air movers based on IICRC recommendations. New Castle Structures Can Develop Mold Problems--SERVPRO Says Just Call Us for Remediation

2/24/2019 (Permalink)

New Castle Business Owners Know SERVPRO Is the Answer for a No Mold Zone

The Risks of Mold Growth in Your New Castle Chapel

From weekly services to weddings and special events, your chapel receives many visitors and foot traffic throughout the year. Keeping up with the needs of the building can be challenging without the time to accurately assess wear and tear, or potential vulnerabilities on your own. While our team can help with honest evaluations, often this is a process that is only thought of after disasters and damages have already occurred. Among the most easily missed and highly destructive of these situations is mold growth.

There are many reasons that mold damage in New Castle must get addressed quickly and professionally. Among the chief of these would be the potential health effects for those exposed to active and growing colonies throughout the property. To keep your congregation and leaders safe from these possible risks, you should reach out to our SERVPRO remediation specialists. We can help you remove these organisms from the property and return things to pre-mold conditions.

Another potential problem that results from allowing mold growth to continue in your church or commercial structure without resistance is the effect that the organism has on the construction materials and contents used to support the colonies. A colony requires an organic material for hosting, and it becomes a food source for growth and spread of the mold throughout the affected areas and beyond.

Our SERVPRO team can respond quickly at the discovery of mold to establish containment barriers using plastic sheeting and negative air pressure devices. We then work to treat the affected materials with the mindset of preservation over reconstruction. If we can protect and restore a damaged element, this happens instead of needlessly tearing out materials and replacing them later on. Porous materials like sheetrock and fabrics are more susceptible to becoming non-salvageable.

Our SERVPRO of Garfield & Pitkin Counties remediation specialists can help to remove the active colonies quickly and return your structure quickly. Give us a call anytime at (970) 618-1516.

Unexpected incidents can threaten your ability to provide the full scope of the services and departments available to the public, even with dedicated maintenance and custodial staff available.

Another consideration that you need to make is the thorough nature of services like our SERVPRO team can provide. This assurance not only eliminates the likelihood of mold growth, but it also can help to preserve the strength and integrity of building materials that became affected by the water.
